DAN SCHACHNER

THE STORY

After his unceremonious firing from the NFL in 2010 for being “too soft” on the players, Dan decided to set his referee sights a little lower.  Like 4 ft lower.

14 years later, as the only human on a field of adorable adoptable animals, being the Puppy Bowl Referee has become a full-time job for Dan. The latest Puppy Bowl XX was another huge success,  along with the spinoff shows "Tough Mutt to Crack" "Puppy Bowl PreGame" and the live adoption show "Give a Dog A Home."

He has appeared everywhere from "The Today Show" to "Watch What Happens Live" to "CNN Daybreak" to "The Kelly Clarkson Show" as he promotes the Big Game.

When not officiating dogs Dan officiates humans as a the host of dog-themed trivia events across NYC.

A long time advocate for dog rescue and fostering, Dan works with countless other rescue groups around the country helping to raise money for their benefit.

In 2018 Dan was awarded the “Animal Welfare Hero” award from the Baltimore Humane Society.

An expert in pet safety, dog trivia, and pet adoption, Dan has collaborated with Wisdom Panel, Orbitz, Stella and Chewy’s, Subaru, Petco and Xfinity, among others.
